They are the largest Ibero (Hispanic/Latino) film festival in Connecticut. The directors and actors for many of their films attend the festival and address the audiences in Q&A or panel discussions.
The films, panel discussions, and catered receptions in our program are free and open to the public and all of the festival except opening night takes place at the Whitney Humanities Center, 53 Wall St. Opening night will take place at Arts Hall, 55 Audubon St.
It is an intimate festival that encourages interaction with filmmakers and actors. Some of the films are U.S. Premieres and even more are New England Premieres. It is a week of cultural exchange and great entertainment.
The first festival was in 2010, this is our fifth. The festival was started in Providence RI with the support of Brown University, where our president, Leonel Limonte’s daughter was a student.Satellite festivals were also held at other colleges, including Yale.
Leonel, who is Cuban- American, wanted to introduce New Englanders to Cuban cinema. He teamed up with veteran festival director José Torrealba, who also worked at Brown, to bring those and Ibero cinema from all over the world to New England.
